Taming Orillia’s Red Light District
Speaker: David Town
Popular local history writer David Town returns to the Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society to talk about a seedy and little-known side of Orillia’s early history – the thriving red light district of the 1890’s. His recent book, “Taming Orillia’s Red Light District” tells the story of the 1895 crackdown on the bawdy houses of the city and men who visited them. His research reveals that very prominent men were arrested in their homes and describes the incredible court case that ensued.
