Our Museum

Established in 1976, the Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society (BTEHS) preserves the history and heritage of Beaverton, and the former townships of Thorah and Eldon.  The society operates a volunteer-managed Beaver River Museum located on the edge of the Mill Gate Park on Simcoe Street in Beaverton.    The four historic buildings overlook the Beaver River and house more than 10,000 artifacts and archives.

The society offers programs for all ages, hosts special events, and maintains a local history archive. A partnership and long-term lease with the Township provide a stable base for this important community asset.  The museum complex is the result of thousands of hours of volunteer labour, many donations of artifacts and money, and grants from both the Federal and Provincial Government.

Donations are crucial to help us maintain our buildings and collections, so please consider donating. Your contribution helps ensure that our past has a future.

The Beaver River Museum is one of the three museums in Brock Township.  Cannington Historical Society and Sunderland and District Historical Society are home to the other two museums.
