GENERAL MEETING – June 24th, 2018
284 Simcoe St 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Topic: Orillia’s Civil War
Guest speaker: David Town
With this presentation David Town, Orillia Chiropractor and lover of local history explores the turbulent beginnings of Orillia from 1832 to 1836. It is a story of bitter battles between the First Nations People, the Family Compact Government, the settlers and the church. The struggle for power and land dominated these years with the settlers under the protection of the government illegally occupying native land, with treaties being ignored and with the First Nations People forced to give into poor land deals. Town’s detailed research is impressive and eye opening.
We hope you can join us for this provocative presentation.
